There’s a lot to love about some of the larger churches in Temecula. They have groups, programs, and activities for just about every demographic. There are plenty of ways to get involved, whether that means serving in a ministry, attending one of the many groups or Bible studies that are offered, or simply attending one of the church’s multiple services. In general, large churches tend to have a lot going on, which appealing to a lot of people
But not everyone loves attending larger churches. For some people, they can feel like they are just another face in the crowd. They don’t run into the same people every week before or after church services, making it difficult to form connections. No one notices if they miss a week or two. In addition, in larger churches it can be hard to connect with leadership, including the pastors on staff.
If you’re looking for a church where you can get to know people and be known, you may have to look beyond the few large churches in the valley, and instead, start visiting some of the small to mid-sized churches in Temecula. The great news is that there are plenty of churches to choose from in the area, including denominational and nondenominational churches!
It can be difficult to tell if a church is small, medium, or large simply by visiting a church’s website, but one thing you can look at is how many services the church has on a Sunday. If it has multiple services, it’s a good indication that it’s a larger church with hundreds, if not thousands, of attendees on a Sunday. In small and medium-sized churches, on the other hand, there will typically only be one main service that everyone in the church attends on a weekly basis.
When you attend a church with only one main service, the advantage is that you’ll see the same people every week. You’ll get to know them, and they’ll get to know you. It can be easier to start to get involved because it will be easy to find a person in leadership who can help you get plugged into a volunteer role. You can even get to know your pastor(s) on a personal level.
It might take visiting a few different churches to find one that is the right fit for you and your family, but don’t get discouraged! There are plenty of small and midsized churches in the valley that are helping people find and follow Jesus by teaching the Word of God, and all of them welcome visitors. If you don’t even know where to start when it comes to visiting churches, ask around! Just about anyone who attends a church would be happy to tell you about theirs. Then, start visiting. You can even visit multiple churches on a Sunday if you find one that starts early, and one that has a later service time. Before you know it, you find a church in Temecula where you feel at home and where you can go every Sunday to learn more about Jesus!
